Current (Tailscale) status: DNS. It's always DNS. And firewalls, don't forget them. How exactly everything is going wrong is not clear but something really weird is going on in the tailnet DNS server.

I think my conclusion with Zig is that it's ultimately a moderately nicer C, but it isn't much more than that. I can't really decide on if I'd prefer to write an app in Zig over C, but I wouldn't pick either over Rust, Typescript, or any other language with better memory, thread, and type safety guarantees.

I do have a long backlog of writing to edit, write, and post with close to 90 items in the blogfodder list that is in one mode or another (idea, framing, draft, or editing).

I need to sort out my new workflow for posting as I'm really not happy with it, but that will come.

As summer, nee spring, is upon us in fits and starts, I have a very important suggestion to make, should you own your place, or have a homeowner's association to bug:

Use the lightest-colored roofing material you can find.

This place was re-roofed with the lightest ones the HOA could get without special ordering them. It is considerably more comfortable in heat than it was before, and that is with insufficient insulation. The change was instantly noticeable.

And if you must use black tar to roof apartment buildings (hello, Van Nuys and Sherman Oaks), why not spend $50 for some white paint to cover the tar?

[NOTE: I am not responsible for chemical reactions between paint and tar, or between any other materials whatsoever containing any kind or combination of atoms, whether in molecular form or not, ensuing as a proximate result of actions taken based on my insistence that roofs be as light a shade as possible. Never mix chemicals based on a rant, or anything I ever say now, will say, or have said. Seriously, don't do that.]

A cooler interior is one we don't need to use quite as much air conditioning to keep comfortable in summer, nee spring. Go light! 😀 👍

yeah…. the new update to Android (meaning most of it isn’t gonna be open sourced anymore) sounds really bad… as expected 😅
