hot take: starter sets for #DnD (and other #TTRPG s) should go back to including dice sets with all different colors*.

When a new player asks which one the d8 is, it's harder to say, "Oh its the one with a bunch of triangle faces. No, that's a d20. It's the one... Here it looks like the one I'm holding." but if the starter set had all one standardized set with different colors for each die, it'd be a lot easier. All you would need to say is, "Go ahead and roll the d8. That's the green one."

we even have a standard for what the colors should be, if we take the Holmes set and the TSR Percentile set together**, and it's as follows:

• d4: yellow
• d6: orange
• d8: green
• d10: red**
• d%: red**
• d12: blue
• d20: white**
• all with black numbers

*some dice systems do this: the Genesys system comes to mind, though I'm sure there are others.

**the Holmes set had no d10; the d20 was numbered 0-9 twice, and was white. The TSR Percentile set was two of these 0-9 d20's: one red and one white.

I was bored and looking at #dice websites last night when I discovered gamescience.com is "under construction" and has an Instagram account now. If there's ever a time for them to make a comeback, I guess it's now -- last I heard, they were the last major company making #DnD dice in the USA.

Tonight in #DnD: Suuuuuuure, the big bad's lair action alternates between two things like clockwork, right until I rely on one of them to trigger specifically, then they decide to try the secret third thing #TTRPG

In 5th grade I bought a D&D basic set for $1 at the Chiefland Flea Market. Read through the books on the ride home. Started telling friends about it as soon as I returned to school. A few weeks later our teacher had us stay in from recess. She wanted to watch us play D&D. So she could see "just how evil it was." By 7th grade they had created rules to ban D&D as a "game of chance." All of this was pointless of course. Our games never stopped. And now April 12th you can see what terrorized my teachers live on stage in Gainesville, FL! It'll be dice, graph paper, and fear as a Charles Divine play adaptation collab with Becky Johnston runs at the Acrosstown Repertory Theatre. Any questions?
