The Humane AI pin is being recalled as it has a risk of catching fire… which is also a metaphor for AI products.
TIL - the Humane AI pin company is apparently doomed financially, and one of the largest investors is Sam Altman.
I wonder what else Sam Altman invested in.
Humane AI pins (remember them?), which launched just over a year ago, will stop working in 10 days and become landfill.
The only function which will continue to work is the battery.
The largest investor was OpenAI’s Sam Altman.
@GossiTheDog Good thing there weren’t any users impacted by the short notice.
@GossiTheDog curious about how long the rabbit R1 could keep going.
@GossiTheDog
Will love to get one at a fire sale to tinker with (getting bare metal apps on a cute device like this would be cool).
@GossiTheDog
The Humane AI pin debacle is really something also
@GossiTheDog I missed this whole thread. Thanks for this.
@Sempf same. Fascinating. @GossiTheDog
@GossiTheDog that doesn’t seem very humane
@GossiTheDog it had a good run
“The only function which will continue to work is the battery.”
Someone beleived customers will enjoy a device where we spend money to charge, and then, observing the battery level going down, until the complete discharge. Rince and repeat.
“Better than Netflix” no one ever said.
@xavsworld @GossiTheDog That's about it for the vast majority of HAM handhelds, ngl.
@GossiTheDog Prolly coulda sold more if they made it look like Star Trek insignia.
@GossiTheDog I bet nobody saw this coming. I met a guy a couple of months ago with one of these and he said it was awesome. I guess I'd have to love it too if I'd spent that much money on it. I wonder how he feels now.
@GossiTheDog I remember your initial post about them!
@GossiTheDog frankly I am surprised it lasted this long.
@GossiTheDog Some would say it can’t stop working if it never did! So not surprised to see HP buy the remains of this
For some reason I feel sorry for the unloved hardware but not sorry for Sam Altman.
